Leroy is what every draft cross lovers dreams are made of. This 8yr old, 16hh, 1350lbs, Quarter Horse/Draftcross Gelding that has the puppy dog demeanor of a draft that everyone adores along with the rock solid conformation but has the ability and versatility to perform like a quarter horse half his size if needed and has the resume to prove it. Dad can use him to do ranch work, mom can ride him out on the trails or take him over fences, and the kids can play around him safely and dote on him to their hearts content. Leroy is truly a horse the whole family can and will enjoy. Leroy was bred and raised in Canada and then used to do ranch work in Canada, Montana, and here in Texas. He’s has a great work ethic and there’s no job too big for him. From doctoring in the pasture to dragging calves to the branding fire, Leroy has done it all and is ready for any job you need him to do. With his ranch work history especially in the mountains, it’s no surprise that Leroy is one of the most surefooted horses to grace our program. From mountainous terrain to the plains, he will safely get you to do your destination every time. Leroy crosses creeks and bridges with ease, navigates through thick brush safely, is careful and strategic about his foot placement when going up and down steep terrain, has no qualms when it comes to vehicle or pedestrian traffic, and if you’re on a State Trail way you’re sure to get compliments on him from passerby’s. In the arena, Leroy shines just as bright. Whether you’re riding him under english tack or western, Leroy is a smooth and fancy ride that attracts attention. He is one handed broke, side passes both directions, picks up the correct leads, can turn around slow and correct, and is tuned in to not only your seat, legs, and hands, but your voice as well. A simple sit on your pockets with a bump of the reins and an “easy” can have him going around at a pace slower than some pleasure horses and a bump with the magic “whoah” will have him stopping on a dime. Leroy is comfortable to ride in all gaits thanks to his natural cadence accentuated by his training. He has a lovely ground covering walk, a fantastic jog that can be bumped up to a comfortable working trot, as well as a lope that makes 90% of other horses his size 100% jealous. We truly don’t believe there is anything Leroy can’t do as he’s exceeded every expectation while in our program. He will carry a flag, has been schooled successfully up to 3’6” in both show jumping and cross country with a few prelim and intermediates thrown in, goes around lovely on the flat under english tack, happily keeps a toddler safe while riding double with a parent as well stepping up to the plate to be a huge blank canvas for said toddler’s finger painting. Leroy isn’t just a ranch horse, he’s a horse the whole family can enjoy doing so many different things with thanks to his mind and versatility. When it comes to Leroy’s daily care and handling, he is an absolute gentleman. Leroy has been easy to catch each time we walk out to get him and can typically be heard before seen with his greeting nicker. From grooming to tacking up, Leroy will remain like a patient statue (bonus points, you don’t need any specialty draft tack for him). He’ll let you take your time mounting and unmounting, and you can also safely use a mounting block if needed. Leroy is good to bathe and clip as well. The first time your farrier lays eyes on Leroy he might not be your biggest fan, but after working on Leroy, whether it’s just a trim or a full set, your farrier is sure to like him too. If you’re often trailering to different places, you can rest easy knowing Leroy will always load into your trailer and hauls without any fuss. Leroy has had no previous health or lameness issues, requires no special care or maintenance, is UTD on all routine care, and is ready to become the horse you’ve always wanted to own. We invite you to come meet this exceptional gelding at our place in Weatherford, TX. PPEs welcomed and we can help assist setting up hauling to wherever you call home. For any questions and to talk about if Leroy is the right fit for you, feel reach to out to H Spur Performance & Versatility Horses Sarah at 817-366-6123.
