Lonsum Smoke “Smokey” is a 3 year old AQHA registered gelding standing 15 hands high. There aren’t many youngsters as safe, quiet, and versatile as Smokey. He can pack the kids around one day, go win a trail competition the next, hunt on the weekend, and come home and trail ride with the husband or guests. He jumps a course, rides like your favorite old lesson horse, goes bridleless, out rides your best trail master, and is gentle and kind as can be on the ground. He has the brains and ability for any job with any level rider. If we didn’t tell you his age you’d think he was in his teens!
In the ring, Smokey is easy as can be. You could ride him backwards with your eyes closed. He rides both English and western, and is schooling first level dressage tests and jumping small courses. He is a natural when it comes to jumping and always gets himself to a good distance. He has offered flying changes, knows how to extend and collect, and is happy to go in the bridle, ride on the buckle, or go with no bridle at all. We trust Smokey to give riding lessons to the kids, pony ride the babies, and be a reliable mount for anyone who wants to come and ride. He is a confidence builder in every way.
On the trails and off property, Smokey is a perfect gentleman. He is the same horse in every environment. He hops right on the trailer and rides right off wherever you point him. He’s done all the trail obstacles and gone to various trail competition parks. He rides alone or in a group, ponies other horses, and is a reliable partner in any terrain. Smokey crosses water, is traffic safe, great with hounds, safe with livestock, and is unbothered by everything we have thrown his way.
In the barn, Smokey is gentle and kind. He loves attention and being around people. He is easy to catch in the pasture, and currently lives out most of the time, but is the same horse when stalled. You can ride him every day or once a month and he will be the same, quiet, safe horse. Smokey is a good boy for all the usual barn activities and has no maintenance, quirks, or vices.
♦️Our program produces versatile and family-friendly horses for all disciplines and levels of the sport. While at our farm, every horse is handled, ridden, and loved by us and our children. We make sure our horses are well versed in trail riding, going off property, attending clinics and lessons, and some go to horse shows, and fox hunt. This is a family operation priding ourselves in finding and producing quality family, amateur friendly horses for all ages and disciplines!
