If you’re looking for a solid, seasoned gelding that has been the places, done the work, and has proven to be an outstanding partner, look no further! Dexter is a 16 year old grade QH gelding that stands 14.0HH and weighs approximately 1100 lbs. This gelding is as wide as he is tall, has a flawless neck rein, and gentle for everyone from the ground to the trails!
Dexter will go ANYWHERE! Dexter has been used on a ranch in Wyoming gathering cattle, trail ridden all over East, Texas and more. Dexter will go absolutely anywhere you point him with no hesitation, crossing water, obstacles, rough terrain and more. He will ride out by himself, or in a group. He will follow but does love to be the leader of the pack and is very confident out on the trail. He has a big ranch horse walk, so if you’re looking for a trail partner to do NATRAC, long distance riding, camping and more, you’ll love him! He will WTC confidently on the trails, and doesn’t flinch at barking dogs, sporadic wildlife, machinery or traffic. I have personally taken him for miles, and truly enjoyed the places we have went together. He would be a perfect second horse as well if needed for guest or your husband to join you on the trails. If you’re enjoying a cocktail on the group trail rides, you’ll never have to worry about getting back to camp as Dexter will take care of you and knows his way home!
If you have no desire to do any trail riding, but need a solid horse for your hobby ranch to move, gather, and doctor cattle, you can do all of that on Dexter as well! His previous owner used him on their family ranch in Wyoming and he loved the ranch life.
In the arena, Dexter has some great buttons! He will neck rein like a dream, pivot on his haunches, stop and back up softly. He has a motor if asked and isn’t the type of horse that you constantly have to keep kicking. One smooch and he is loping off in a cute circle. He will stop off of seat or voice commands too which is a huge bonus as well as break down transitions with voice commands. No matter how cold, or long Dexter has had off, you do not have to worry about him being silly. I have personally rode him after having a month off with no problems. We have desensitized him to flags, tarps, logs, and more! He would be perfect for a drill team member, someone wanting to learn how to rope, play around on the barrels and poles and more!
Back at the barn, Dexter is uncomplicated as they get with no vices! He is easy to catch, stands tied all day long, is hobble broke, great for the farrier, self loads and backs right off the trailer! Dexter has the best ground manners and is handled by kids and beginners daily. He is currently barefoot and has not had shoes in a while, and doesn’t seem to need them even on rocky / hard ground. He is great in turn out with all type of herd settings! He can live outside or in a stall. His biggest selling point has to be that he poops in one corner of his stall and is very clean, lol. We can’t wait to see who ends up with this special gelding! He is UTD on everything, has a PPE on file, clean bill of health and ready to go! His age has been verified by an equine dentist, as well as our vet!
All serious parties are welcome to come visit him at our place in Lufkin, Texas, or do their own PPE. Please feel free to call Bailey with any questions! (330) 243-5233
